About Stetson

Stetson Purgason

Clinical Intern

Stetson is looking to gain exposure to multiple types of demographics and populations for an enriching counseling internship. Some areas of interest include: depression, anxiety, PTSD and C-PTSD, existential conflicts, death and dying, family systems, and learning challenges. Stetson places an emphasis on a person-centered approach to build a strong therapeutic relationship. He desires to promote a safe space for the client to engage with processing raw and genuine experiences without judgment. Areas of treatment he would like to explore are Cognitive Behavior Therapies, Feminist Theories including socioeconomic structures, goal setting, Motivational Interviewing, career mapping, family tree exercises, and journaling. We may not be able to always change our past history and what has happened to us. Some of us may even struggle with coming to terms of our place in an unjust or an oppressive combination of systems. Stetson is here to say that we all have the power to intimately understand these vulnerable areas and grow into the best version of ourselves.

Stetson is originally from California and moved to a small town in Northwest Oklahoma when he was 12. He later completed high school and attended the University of Oklahoma with a double major in Letters – Constitutional Studies and Sociology – Criminology. Upon graduation he joined Teach For America for 1 year in San Antonio, TX focusing on grades 7-12 history and humanities at a Title I public school. After relocating back to Oklahoma City, he accepted a job with managing implementations of HR and payroll systems. In addition to his full-time job, he is concurrently enrolled at Oklahoma City University in the Applied Behavioral Studies – Professional Counseling M.Ed. program. Post graduation he plans to get licensed and offer therapeutic services in a part-time capacity.

While away from school and work, Stetson likes to spend his free time traveling to new areas, learn about cooking cuisines from a variety of cultures, and keeping up with his favorite TV series including lots of law dramas. He is a life-long learner when it comes to taking on new courses and has many curiosities to new ideas or ways of living that are foreign to him. Should you have any questions, please feel free to reach out!
