“People will forget what you said. People will forget what you did. But people will never forget how you made them feel.” Maya Angelou

I graduated from SWOSU in 2021 with my bachelor’s in Psychology with a minor in Child Development. Upon graduation, I went straight into SWOSU’s master’s program to pursue a degree in Community Counseling with the goal of becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor. I plan to graduate in May of 2023 and will complete my course work by the end of 2023.

I knew I wanted to be counselor from a young age, specifically when I started my own journey in counseling at age 14. I was able to see the difference that my counselor made in my life, and now I want to help others with their mental health and hopefully be able to have the same impact on some of their lives as my own counselor had on mine. I would like to help people who are struggling with depression and anxiety, as well as individuals wanting to learn to set and manage boundaries in any area of their lives.

Throughout middle and high school, I saw countless of my peers, myself included, struggling to cope in a variety of situations and experiences. Perhaps the most common and prominent concern was in the overall feelings of self-worth in young girls. Because of this, I would like to help young women and girls build themselves and their self-images up and work to maintain it throughout their lifetimes.

It is never too early to begin your counseling journey. I am looking forward to continuing my education and acquiring more knowledge through my practicum and internship hours as well as finding and developing my own approach to counseling. I am so excited that I get to be a part of Oklahoma Counseling Group, not only to better prepare myself in my career, but so I can better aid those in and around my community the same way I was.
